SPOILERY ANALYSIS GUIDE:
Warning: Big Spoilers ahead.
So what's really going on?
* This story makes way more sense if you follow the rooms sequentially. Speaking of, the intended sequence is also included in the attached cover art in the device that the girl is holding. (the grid).
* And to further address that art, the first hint is the bagstrap and bag (an object perfect to contain items in) that says 'Item Count: 00' in large red letters. Red is often used as a colour to signal warnings or issues... what could you infer from this?
* Room 1. A sign says Vault 1. 1 is one possible number out of many. Could there be more vaults out there each with their own number?
* Every room you progress through save the centre has a border around the outside edges. Seems like there's no way out of the vault.
* Your first dialogue (idea) wording communicates the importance and urgency of taking items. While it might seem to be from a third person perspective... is it, really?
* In Room 1 there are little fenced off enclosures with the silhouettes of people inside (the sprite name is literally 'corpse) and when you approach the wall you get a dialogue that the wall smells bad. What does this imply?
* The text interactions emphasise a great importance on possessing items as you progress through the game, commenting on the burden of possessing them (though you take them anyway) and on lost opportunities to have had more.
* In Room 4 you see the tree, some saplings and bushes. These indicate that some life still survives here despite there being no sentient living beings in sight. Even at a time like this and in a place like this life can continue on in the most dire of conditions.
* The tree is referenced a few times and when you interact with it it says the tree is dying. This is too spoilery for me to get into but save it to say that this is one of those things that's more than it seems and the tree is a metaphor and refers to more than just a regular tree.
* In Room 5 you learn that the player character previously did not have means to possess much and you can see their focus on getting items and taking a coin even though it's now worthless, causually ignoring the corpse at the bottom of the screen; and really showing their priorities/situation.
* Speaking of the corpse it looks like it was trying to escape. Escape what?
* It's reinforced that there are no living humans.
* In Room 7 you can see some peak greed as everything has been taken, even the number and directional tiles pointing the way into the next room.
* In Room 8 you can see some discarded materials from Room 7 (the ruined direction arrows, a bit of a number tile) and a big fortress with items inside and a sign that says keep out. Some silhouetted figures are inside. Based on pre-existing context you can safely assume that they are corpses of people who died after being barricaded in there. Was their greed that strong?
* And why is everyone here dead?
* Room 9, the room coincidentally with the most items in it, is referred to as Heaven.
* If you take all the items and attempt to leave you get the message that Heaven is empty now. A bit sad as it seems to indicate a lost importance now that this place has been plundered of its resources which gave it its status to begin with. (If you take the dialogue as being first person, you the player character are the one who dubs this place Heaven...)
* You may find some of the special items here a little familiar if you've read another one of my works, 'Agent-sy'. Now, what could this imply?
* Even items that the character shows distaste towards or are hard to transport are taken hinting at either a strong greed or desperation.
* With the exception of the special items, all items use the same ambiguous sprite so you can't even tell what they are. Could this in a way indicate the same about the player character? And if so, what does it say about them?
* Your bed is here. This could be real or a hallucination but it along with the text that shows when you attempt to leave the Room shows your future. You're walled into a vault with no way out where there are multiple corpses and you've taken all the items. Now there's nothing else left for you to do but lie in bed and wait.
* How long will you wait? If you look at the cover art you might notice some numbers 48:15. 48 hours and 15 minutes, after which your story also will end. How will it end? Why will it end? (Spoilers!)
* Have you noticed the recurring use of the word 'humans' rather than people in the game? If you look at the cover art you might notice that the person depicted there doesn't appear to be human... to be specific, she's a naga.
* Possibly, their species might have something to do with their lack of possessions in the past and current fixation on them now? Although it appears there are many greedy humans too so who knows. Whatever the case it seems that before whatever happened here happened life wasn't that easy for a lot of people.
* If you connect this work with some of my other works (which may or may not currently be released) You may be able to answer the few questions I didn't touch on as to what is really going on. In either case you've reached the end of this guide, congratulations!
